Medicare rebate
Our counselling sessions and group sessions (or classes) are supported by Medicare when you have a referral, in the form of a Mental Health Care Plan, from your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician. With the Mental Health Care Plan, you are entitled to 10 counselling sessions and 10 classes in a calendar year.
To get a referral you will need to make an appointment with your GP to complete a Mental Health Care Plan. It is important to tell the doctor's receptionist that you want a referral to a psychologist as the GP needs approximately 30 minutes to discuss the plan with you - so make sure you ask for a double session!

You must obtain your GP referral prior to your first appointment in order to receive Medicare rebates. On payment of your counselling or group session, you will receive an invoice which you can take to any Medicare branch to claim your rebate.
Our fee for sessions under this scheme:
Our practice is happy to bulk bill people (9-5pm only) who have a Health Care Card therefore they will have no out of pocket expense for the sessions.
For people who do not have a Health Care Card, our fee is $120, with a rebate of $83.25 from Medicare, meaning the out of pocket expense is $36.75.
A cancellation fee ($50 for full fee or $20 with a health care card) applies if less than 24 hours notice is given. Individuals may access therapy sessions as a result of being a victim of crime which will be paid by VRAS (Victims Referral and Assistance Service) directly. Please contact Victims Support Agency on 1800 819 817 for further information. |
