Psychological Skills Training Groups

DID YOU KNOW?

Under Medicare clients are eligible for up to 10 psychological group sessions per year (in addition to individual sessions).

WHY?

Group sessions will focus on developing, advancing and consolidating psychological coping skills. The programs are designed to introduce clients to new strategies and/or compliment individual sessions.

Sessions are for clients to have an opportunity to learn and develop healthier habits to improve their wellbeing.

We recommend that specific personal issues may be better addressed in individual sessions.

WHAT GROUPS ARE AVAILABLE?

Training groups are based on the strategies of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and will focus on developing clients psychological skills in the following areas:

  1. Anxiety and relaxation – reducing the physical and psychological symptoms of anxiety
  2. Depression – improving mood and the motivation to engage in day-to-day activities
  3. Weight management – developing enduring changes to relationships with food and physical activity
  4. Postnatal Depression – assisting new parents to cope with, and adjust to, the expectations, emotions and physiological changes of parenthood

COST?

Each session will cost $25. With a referral from GP clients are eligible for a rebate of $21.25 from Medicare.
Health Care Card holders will be bulk-billed for sessions.
